iOS 16 will arrive next Monday, but you can already download the final version if you are a developer. Although the novelties are already well known by all, Apple continues to add interesting features to the system. As published in 9to5mac, iOS 16 is able to identify fake AirPods that connect to iPhone.
Until now, the fake AirPods, some very successful, were connected and, in the eyes of the system, could pass for authentic, although their functionalities, beyond the fast connection, were not the same. Namely, noise cancellation, spatial sound, etc.
However, that has come to an end. The iOS 16 code includes a new alert to warn the user that the AirPods they are connecting to the iPhone could be fake: “These earphones could not be verified as genuine AirPods and may not behave as expected”says the message.
iOS 16 doesn’t prevent you from using fake AirPods, just like a third-party battery not verified by Apple, but it does show an alert message. For those who willingly buy fake AirPods it will not be a problem, but it is an interesting change for those who buy them thinking they are original.
iOS 16 will alert you if your AirPods are fake
Additionally, along with the alert message, a new “More Info” button is also added that would redirect users to a support article on Apple’s website with more details on how to identify the originals.
And although as we say, it does not prevent the use of fake AirPods, the alert offers the user the option of “Do not connect” when the earphones are not original, to avoid trouble.
Of course, this won’t affect third-party wireless earbuds that aren’t AirPods. The system was created to specifically detect counterfeit AirPods that attempt to cheat the system using Apple’s official protocol.
This is not the only novelty for the headphones that includes iOS 16. According to the code of iOS 16 RC, AirPods Pro 2 models with a message or Memoji engraved on the case will come with that same message encoded in its memory. As a result, the system will be able to read that message and display the case customization when pairing AirPods with iPhone and iPad.
