This does not happen in the Bajío. Diego Bocard, CEO of Grupo Argo, highlights that more in the center of the country there is availability in industrial parks in addition to workforce ready to be employed, making the region more attractive, observing a greater interest in those firms attached to the value chain of the automotive and aerospace sector.
For example, in a company industrial park located in San Luis Potosí where 40 companies are installed, 30% of the total expanded their capacities in the last yearIn addition to the fact that in the last six months five more companies have raised their hands to join the complex. For the next three years, it foresees that the economic agents installed could increase up to 60%.
“It is an organic matter. The north is full and the companies decide to go down, they begin to look for new opportunities… They realize that they arrive in the Bajío and that their sister companies or also competitors, are already installed, which generates more security in the investment ”, he highlights in an interview with Expansion.
The relocation of production plants, a phenomenon known as “nearshoring”is being driven by those companies that seek to move their complexes from Asia to Mexico and also, by the interest of European companies that already have operations in the country and are now seeking to increase them, as is the case of Bosch Y Pirelliwhich recently announced investments of 225 million dollars and 114 million euros, respectively, as part of their expansion plans in Guanajuato.
Sarah Basic, Counselor for Economic Affairs at the German Embassy in Mexico, believes that there is great interest from investors from that country in reaching the Bajío, mainly due to its access to both the Pacific and the Gulf, which stands out as a logistics advantage.
“We see many investments, small and large, from German businessmen who are joining,” he said during his participation in the Members Meeting 2022 in El Gran Bajío.
