“Once the coverage is confirmed, the insured can have an advance payment for the removal of debris or to begin the repair of the insured properties, even without completely completing the evaluations at home and SMEs. More than one advance payment may even be granted. This step is critical to begin reconstruction,” explained Norma Alicia Rosas, general director of AMIS, in a statement.
The AMIS estimated that there are around 16,000 insured properties in Acapulco alone.
Debris removal refers to the cost of covered activities to clean up insured property after an incident.
This includes expenses that are necessary to remove debris from the affected property, for example, disassembly, demolition, cleaning or hauling. There are various debris removal coverages, depending on the type of property, line of business and characteristics contracted in the policy. This activity is essential to advance claims.
How to request an advance payment for home and SME insurance
AMIS recommends the following steps for the home and SME claim process:
1. Contact the insurer, one option is to do so through the directory on the AMIS website: https://sitio.amis.com.mx/directorio-de-aseguradoras[1]associated/
2. Policy number must be provided. If you do not have it, the insurance company will be able to help identify it, with some information that it will request from the insured.
3. If the policy is current, once coverage is confirmed, the company will activate the advance payment process, even without closing the valuation and it will be based on its conditions.
4. The insurer will inform about the steps to follow to grant this first resource, as well as the following procedures.
Another means of contact to find out the scope of the policies are the companies’ websites, social networks or insurance agents, who have all the technical preparation to provide guidance on what coverage should be covered and their scope.
