Facebook and Instagram have raised more than $30 million for nonprofits supporting humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Instagram’s new tool against Russian fake news
Recently Meta which is the parent company of Instagram, announced that it is intensifying its efforts to reduce the spread of misinformation in the face of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

“Following last week’s announcement that we are starting to demote posts containing links to Russian state-controlled media on Facebook, starting today, Stories that contain a link tag pointing to a Russian state-controlled media website on Instagram will be placed lower in Stories. We also tag these Stories so people know they lead to Russian state-controlled media websites,” Meta wrote in the statement.
The social network explained that this new label is displayed in its ads, with a note that says, “This story contains a link from a publisher that Instagram believes may be partially or fully under the editorial control of the Russian government.”
Features added for private accounts based in Ukraine and Russia
The photo social network also reported that it is adding features for private accounts based in Ukraine and Russia, so now it will hide information about the followers of a private account and who they follow in the two countries.
As it also adds tools like “Your Activity” and “Download Your Information” so that users can bulk delete posted comments, as well as the likes and comments, information and can obtain a copy of your Instagram data.
These social network measures are in addition to those previously implemented for users in Ukraine and Russia, including the availability of encrypted one-on-one chats and security alerts.
