Inflation in the states
Inflation has been felt more in the pockets of some states of the country than in others.
Compared to August, the price increase in Durango, Nayarit, San Luis Potosí, Colima and Chihuahua showed a higher variation than in the rest of the country.
In the case of a monthly variation of 1%, it is likely to reach an annual rate of 12% if this trend continues, which “is terrible because it would be well above general inflation in Mexico,” Gabriela Siller told Expansión, director of financial economic analysis at Banco Base.
Why are there more expensive states? “There is always a different dynamic by state. Inflation by state depends on several factors: 1. Economic growth accelerates, and this generates greater inflationary pressure; 2. If they consume more or less imported items. Here it depends on how the changeover time went.
“And, 3. States that receive large amounts of remittances tend to have higher inflation. This occurs because the tables are not something that has been given within the federal entity, and this is as if there were an excess amount of money, in relation to what is generated internally, productively,” explains Gabriela Siller.
Between January and September, the variation in inflation has been 2.19%, however, the pockets of the inhabitants of Michoacán, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima and Durango have been among the hardest hit.
