The Spaniard has faced constant problems with the government of President López Obrador. At the beginning of the six-year term, the Spanish company had investment plans for 5,000 million dollars in the country.
The Spanish Iberdrola will get rid of a large part of its assets in the country. The company signed an agreement on Tuesday with the asset manager Mexico Infrastructure Partners for it to acquire a fraction of the wind and gas plants it has in Mexico.
The plants that are part of the agreement represent 87% of the installed capacity that the company has in Mexico.
The deal is valued at about $6 billion, Iberdrola said in a statement. The value could still change depending on the closing date of the acquisition.
