EFE.- Hurricane Pamela, which made landfall in the Pacific on Wednesday, has left at least 9,000 victims in Nayarit, in addition to more than 2,000 families affected in Sinaloa, state authorities reported this Saturday.
The governor of Nayarit, Miguel Ángel Navarro, reported to the media a total of 2,500 families affected, representing more than 9,100 people, in addition to 8,000 inhabitants who were left in isolated areas due to flooding and destruction of roads.
“Given the passage of Hurricane Pamela and the consequences it has had for the north of the state, I would like to inform you that the State Government has visited the affected municipalities and accompanied the people who have been damaged,” said the president in his official networks .
Earlier, the governor of the neighboring state of Sinaloa, Quirino Ordaz Coppel, reported a preliminary census of 2,000 affected families, for which he requested to declare an emergency in four municipalities.
While the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) announced that it has restored normality for the more than 222,000 users affected by the hurricane in the states of Nayarit, Sinaloa, Durango and Coahuila.
Before entering Mexican territory through the state of Sinaloa, the cyclone, formed last weekend, registered an unusual behavior, since on Tuesday it weakened from a hurricane to a tropical storm, but strengthened again as a hurricane in the early hours of the Wednesday.
Pamela made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane with Nayarit as the main affected state.
“The people of Nayarit have always stood up to adversity. We are going to take advantage of the resources and the willingness of the Government of Mexico to rebuild this area of Nayarit ”, promised Governor Navarro.
In addition, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) warned in its forecasts on Wednesday that the remnants of Pamela would interact with a cold front, which would cause heavy rains in Coahuila, Durango, Nayarit and Sinaloa.
The Mexican authorities predicted last May the formation of between 14 and 20 named systems in the Pacific Ocean for this season, while for the Atlantic they predicted 15 to 19 meteorological phenomena.
This year in the Pacific Ocean the cyclones Andrés, Blanca, Carlos, Dolores, Enrique, Felicia, Guillermo, Hilda, Ignacio, Jimena, Kevin, Linda, Marty, Nora, Olaf and Pamela have formed.
