What to do if I have a balance against it because of my employer?
There have been cases in which some employees have a balance against them in their annual declaration, that is, they must pay taxes. A rare but existing cause is that the employers did not timely and correctly transfer the taxes withheld from the worker to the SAT.
The accountant Ariana Martínez Molina, member of the College of Public Accountants of Mexico, answers this question:
If the employee comes to have this situation, the first step is to approach the employer. Because it may be that there is an error in the issuance of payroll CDFIs, with a lower amount and withholding.
But if there is no agreement or clarification, the employee should approach the SAT and establish actions against the moral person, since it would be a “very delicate” case.

The importance of personal deductions
Taxpayers can make, throughout each fiscal year, personal deductions so that their taxable income base is lower. This can increase the chances of having a balance in favor in the 2022 Annual Return.
But it is important that, when an invoice is requested in order to make a tax-deductible expense, it is requested correctly. “Not everyone is an accountant” and the easiest and most common thing is for taxpayers to request the invoice stamped as “expenses in general”, which is an error that leads to the SAT not recognizing the expense in, for example, school fees, as a personal deduction.
The specialist advises that, when making this type of expense, the person in charge of the business be asked to help you correctly request the invoice. The best option will always be to approach an accountant to receive guidance in this regard.
