Generally, one of the first actions we take when we buy a new television or because there is no choice when there are new channels is to retune the DTT channels. It is a process that you have surely done many times, being somewhat uncomfortable due to the fact that when organizing our channels, we have to do it from the remote control controls.
However, this is not the only way that is presented to us when we want to edit our channels. And it is that from Xataka Home we bring you a somewhat more elegant solution and that requires very few steps to achieve. We will only need a USB and a computer to operate.
How do we do it?
The idea is very simple. And it is that what we want to achieve with this procedure is export our TV channel list to a USB. Depending on the manufacturer, these will be exported in a file with a different format. To edit that channel list we will use the universal ChanSort tool.
This program, which we can download for both Windows and Linux systems, analyzes the channels that we will import through USB and will allow us to edit the list according to the order we prefer, so as not to have to do this tedious work through the remote control.
The option of the TV to export the channels to a USB depends on the manufacturer and software itself. We will tell you the process for Samsung or LG Smart TVs. Nevertheless, the procedure is very similar in other models, since we only have to explore a little in the channel settings. There are even manufacturers who have their own special tool, such as Sony, or even TCL.
Export channels on Samsung TVs
The procedure to export channels on Samsung televisions is very simple. First we must insert a USB to one of the ports of our television. Then it will be enough to go to the tab “Issue”, enter the “Channel Settings” and there we will see the option to transfer the channel list.
The channels will be saved in a file with a .scm extension, a file that we will later use to import it into ChanSort and edit the channels themselves.
Export channels on LG TVs
In LG televisions the way to do it is very similar. We will start by inserting the USB into one of the ports, and then we will have to go to the all settings section, enter “Channels” and select the option “Copy Channels”. Once there we can see the option of “TV to USB”.
Once the list is edited, importing it to our television is done in the same way, although this time selecting the USB to TV option.
How to use ChanSort
On your PC, you can download this program through its official Github page. It is a zip file that includes all the elements that make the program work. Us we will have to access through its executable.
Once open, to import our list we will basically have to enter “File” and select the option “Open channel list”. That will be when we have to select the file that the television has generated for us with the entire list of channels on our USB.
The program has multiple editing options. However, what interests us most is moving and reordering the list. For it we simply have to click on the channel and drag it until it is placed where we want. Once this is done, we save the file and import it to our television in the same way that we have done to export the list to USB.
Retuning our DTT is a process that we will surely have to do from time to time, so it is not a bad thing to have other options that speed up the process like the one we have just mentioned.
