Minimum age to legally work in Mexico
The Federal Labor Law establishes precise regulations so that young people between the ages of 15 and 17 can work and be legally affiliated.
Medical certificate
In order for a minor to work, it is required that they present a medical certificate confirming their aptitude for work and undergo the medical examinations determined by the labor authority.
What can I not work if I am a minor?
However, there are important restrictions: minors may not work in non-industrial establishments after 10 pm, nor in dangerous or unhealthy jobs, categorized in a list defined by law.
Other restrictions
In addition to these limitations, minors are prohibited from working in intoxicating beverage outlets for immediate consumption, such as canteens and taverns. The regulations also restrict work during overtime, as well as on Sundays and mandatory rest days. In case of violation of these restrictions, double the amount established for overtime and the days worked in those periods must be paid.
Working hours by law for children under 16 years of age
The working day of minors under 16 years of age cannot exceed 6 hours a day and must be divided into maximum intervals of 3 hours, with at least one hour of rest.
Besides, to be able to work, they must have completed primary education, unless they have the approval of the labor authority.
parental consent
The authorization of the parents or guardians is essential, and in the absence of these, the approval of the union to which they belong, the court, the labor inspector or the corresponding political authority must be obtained.
Importance of your rights
This initiative seeks to guarantee your rights and ensure that as a minor worker, you can enjoy social security and all the benefits that this implies.
