When we talk about the refresh rate on the screen, we do it from one of those characteristics that we can find in the screen of our phone, as it can also be its size, the type of panel it has or, also, its resolution whose data tend to be somewhat more familiar to us when looking at the specifications of a device. However, given the growing trend in this section, it is the perfect time to talk about this feature, as well as the settings that will allow us to check what rate we have, as well as the fact of being able to configure it.
What is the screen refresh rate for
As we said, before the massive arrival of the world gaming to mobile devices, manufacturers have put the batteries and have begun to work on its main characteristics, or the most striking, such as the fact of always having the higher speed possible on the touch panels of your smartphones. And how we are checking, we are witnessing an escalation in terms of the refresh rate of the screens of the phones.
If until just a few years ago, 60 Hz was the top, it seems that they are on the way to becoming something of the past, since there are already smartphones that have panels capable of having a refresh rate of up to 166 Hz. That is why, It never hurts how to know how to check this little piece of information and what exactly is it for having more or less.
Therefore, it should be remembered that the so-called update rate is a magnitude by which a panel is capable of updating the number of images per second it displays. What’s more, is divided into Hertz (Hz) to indicate how many times per second the images are updated on the panel, in this case from smartphones.
This means, for example, that if a screen has a refresh rate of 120 Hz it is capable of updating itself 120 times per second. The same happens with the 60 or 90 Hz rates. We refer to these figures, since they are the rates most used by manufacturers in their mobile devices. What is clear is that, the higher the refresh rate, the more fluid it is in browsing pages or games.
Make it appear on your mobile screen
In addition, we can find several synonyms for this feature, from refresh rate, refresh rate or, simply, refresh rate. Now, it is the turn of how we can check this aspect of the panel of our mobile device in real time. And, thus, check what behavior our phone has in front of different apps such as games or videos, in case of having an adaptable frequency. This means that the terminal itself will have the ability to adjust it by itself depending on your needs.
Therefore, in order to enable this refresh rate in real time we will have to go to the options for mobile developers:
- First, we will enter the phone settings.
- Once we are inside, we will have to go to the section of Phone information o About the phone at the bottom.
- Then, we will have to locate the Build Number and click on it seven times in a row. As we click, we will see that the smartphone itself will notify us of how many touches we have left to activate the developer options.
- Finally, when we press all the required times, we will have the Developer options enabled.
These developer options are hidden on all Android smartphones. For this reason, we will always have to activate them before being able to enter them. Once we have it activated, we can access them to show the refresh rate of the panel of our smartphone in real time. To do this, follow the following steps:
- Go back into the phone settings.
- Go to the System section and enter it.
- When you are inside, we should see the Developer Options.
- Inside, we will have to look for the section Show refresh rate.
- Finally, we must press the switch to activate it. From there, we will always see that a number will be displayed on the screen that will indicate the Hz at which the smartphone panel refreshes.
Can I change the refresh rate?
The truth is that it is curious that someone wants to reduce the refresh rate of your phone’s panel. But, it makes sense, since, by adjusting the speed with which the touch panel is updated, it can help us reduce the high battery consumption of the panels AMOLED.
Of course, our smartphone may not be able to carry out this configuration. But, we can always check it by following these steps:
- We enter the Settings app> Screen.
- We look for the Refresh rate option (depending on the software layer of our smartphone this section will change its name).
- Once inside, if our smartphone lets us choose, we can select one refresh rate or another.
However, the location of these settings may vary from one terminal to another, although it should be noted that this option is not available in all terminals, being a functionality that depends entirely on the manufacturer.
Use an adaptive refresh rate
To make this change on mobile devices that enjoy a refresh rate higher than 60 Hz, all you have to do is enter the device Settings, go to the touch panel section of the terminal and locate an option called a similar to “Screen refresh rate”, To later choose between the different modes offered by the manufacturer itself.
However, the name of these options will change, although the steps will be very similar on all Android phones that have the ability to vary the update of their panels, regardless of the customization layer. And, although we have this option activated automatically, the phone may decide to lower the refresh rate to the minimum when we go on to enable battery saving on our Android mobile.
