The first look at the long-awaited series Secret Invasion, coming soon on Disney+, is here and surprised Marvel fans. The trailer was one of the great novelties of the study in the D23Expo which took place over the weekend. But beyond containing some new clues to phase five of the studio’s cinematic universe, the series is something of an enigma.
It’s also an elegant and well-placed look at a suspenseful thriller with a paranoid air. Secret Invasion It will feature an all-star cast, including Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke, as well as a sober staging that departs from the usual aesthetics of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Set to premiere sometime in 2023, the series takes a much more adult and complicated take on the successful superhero franchise.
This is a radical change in the content proposals in streaming that the study explored so far. Since WandaVisionthe arrival of the multiverse by the hand of Loki or the transition from Sam Wilson to Captain America. At the same time, small stories like that of hawk eye or the original ones like moon knight, mrs marvel Y She-Hulk: Lawyer She-Hulk. Marvel series have emphasized explorations of familiar places in the cinematic universe from which they come. At best, a way to expand on familiar settings or provide new insights into beloved characters.
But Secret Invasion aims to tell a completely new story. One that, in addition, will have a direct impact on phase five and, without a doubt, on phase six of the franchise. The argument of the story opens the possibility that not everything narrated about the world of Marvel superheroes is completely reliable.
Even that it was part of a dangerous global strategy of domination that could affect the future in the medium term. A complicated, adult and strange concept that the program will handle from suspense and political tension.
Secret Invasion: the paranoia of questioning the Marvel Cinematic Universe
The six-episode series will adapt the comic Secret Invasion by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu, published in 2008. The plot explores how a team of superheroes, the Illuminati, became the unwitting vehicle for a silent and lethal Skrull incursion. An event that occurred after the group visited the empire of the species in defense of the integrity of the Earth in the midst of an intergalactic war.
But the delegation, made up of Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Namor, Reed Richards, Black Bolt and Charles Xavier, ended up being held hostage. During seclusion, his essential physical characteristics were replicated by the Skrulls, known for their ability to shapeshift. Although the heroes later managed to escape, the invasion of Earth began progressively and, in the end, increasingly fearsome.
The story, in fact, has a lot of the tense and conspiratorial air that, apparently, its version will inherit. live action. The premise of the original comic becomes more claustrophobic and unnerving as the plot progresses. What begins with the kidnapping of the Illuminati, ends up being a sinister event of a colossal dimension. Secret Invasion raises the possibility that most of Earth’s heroes were gradually supplanted by an alien army.
A good part of the narration is linked to the possibility that even fundamental and enormously relevant stories within the Marvel Universe were carried out by impostor Skrulls. The perception of danger becomes more suffocating and, by its end, the connection with major events redefines dozens of plots in Marvel.
A dark spy story in an unknown setting
Until now, the shapeshifting alien race has been shown in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a benign way. But the trailer Secret Invasion let it be known that they will lead a war without quarter to be fought on the periphery of major central events. Much more twisted still, it will be linked to already known circumstances, which will be considered from a new perspective.
For its version on Disney +, Samuel L. Jackson will play Nick Fury again, who will face an invisible threat. The first look at the show suggests that the world’s greatest spy has found a situation that is, to say the least, beyond him. The peculiar thing about the script is that, in addition to exploring the original story, it could reinvent the previous phases of Marvel. Is it possible that any of the events narrated on the big screen were the work of the Skrulls?

It doesn’t seem like a coincidence that Secret Invasion released in the same year as the marvels by Nia DaCosta. The first time the alien race came to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was at the hands of Carol Danvers’ origin story. Will its sequel explore the consequences of what is narrated in the program? It only remains to wait to know the answer.
