Honor has taken advantage of the IFA in Berlin to announce not one, but two folding smartphones. On the one hand, the Honor Magic V2, which arrives to compete with the latest from Samsung, Oppo and Xiaomi with design as its trump card. On the other, and no less important, the Honor V Pursea completely different concept from what the Asian firm had us used to.
The Honor V Purse, precisely, has a design that is very reminiscent of Huawei’s first foldables, such as the Mate Xs 2 where there is only a flexible screen that folds and unfolds outwards. In this way it is possible to use the smartphone as if it were a tablet when the screen is fully open, or as a more conventional device by folding part of the panel and placing it on the back of the device.
Honor sees the design of this smartphone as a bag; that’s why he named it. The company, in fact, has included in this Magic V Purse a software modification that allows you to activate different wallpapers with different finishes that try to imitate the exterior of a conventional bag. These are activated when the smartphone screen is folded, as if it were the Always-On function that we see on some devices.
Beyond this strange concept, the Honor V Purse promises to be one of the most ambitious foldables, not only from the brand, but also on the market. It is, so far, the only mobile with this design that can be marketed in Europe with Google services.
The Honor V Purse does not arrive alone
Honor, for the moment, has not confirmed more details about this Magic V Purse, which could be announced later. The company, yes, has presented in the European market what will be its alternative for the Galazy Z Fold 5 and the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3. It is the Magic V2, which comes with a design whose thickness is only 9.9 mm when the smartphone is folded, and weighs 231 grams; less, even, than phones like the iPhone 14 Pro Max or Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra.
The Honor Magic V2 also includes a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, as well as a triple main camera with two 50-megapixel wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle sensors, and a 20-megapixel telephoto camera. At the moment, the company has not confirmed its price either.
