And so out of nowhere, Netflix and Bandai Namco have announced Tekken: Bloodlinean anime inspired by the popular video game franchise that will be coming to the platform streaming at some point this year. Jin Kazama will be the protagonist of the series, and here you can take a look at his first video preview.
Netflix described the series as follows:
“’Power is everything.’ Jin Kazama learned his family’s martial arts from an early age thanks to his mother. Still, he didn’t have the power to stop a monstrous evil that appeared out of nowhere and destroyed everything he held dear, changing his life forever. Angry with himself for not being able to do anything about it, Jin swore revenge and sought absolute power to achieve it. His mission will lead him to the ultimate mission in a global battle arena – The King of Iron Fist Tournament.”
Beyond this synopsis and the trailer, neither Netflix or Bandai gave official details about the project, however, this would not be the first time that Tekken is taken to another medium beyond games. Tekken: The Motion Picture debuted in 1998 and Tekken: Blood Vengeance in 2011. The franchise has also ventured into the realm of live-action with Tekken in 2009 and its prequel Tekken 2: Kazuya’s Revenge in 2014. Both debuted to negative reviews.
And in other news about Tekkenit has long been known that Tekken X Street Fighter it had not been completely canceled, but was only “paused”. You can read more details about it by clicking here.
editor’s note: Netflix continues with this obsession of wanting to adapt some of the most popular video game franchises to anime, and we all know the kind of results that this can produce. It’s still early to judge Tekken: Bloodline, but let’s hope it’s not as bad as you might think.
