Fighter Hebert Sousa defeated Kazakh Abilkhan Amankul on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and guaranteed his country’s second boxing medal.
The 23-year-old Brazilian imposed his powerful style of play to beat Amankul, the world runner-up in 2017, by split decision (3-2) in the middleweight quarterfinals (69-75kg).
Sousa, who is guaranteed at least one of the two bronze medals to the semifinalists, follows in the footsteps of his compatriot Abner Teixeira, who will fight in the heavyweight semifinals (81-91 kg).
