The University Council unanimously approved the granting of honoris causa to the following cultural personalities: Judith Butler, Manuel Castells Oliván, Joanne Chory, Ingrid Daubechies, Guillermo del Toro, María Rosario Dosal Gómez, María-Ángeles Durán Heras, Javier Garciadiego Dantan, Rafael López Castro, Angelina Muñiz Sacristán, Lourival Domingos Possani Postay and Ricardo Rivero Ortega.
What is the honorary doctorate?
This is the highest recognition granted by the Highest House of Studies to characters who have fought to improve society or who have contributed to the well-being of a community, from fields such as pedagogy, arts, letters and sciences. He regularly delivers it in a special ceremony.
Who is Guillermo del Toro and where did he study?
He was born on October 9, 1964 in Gadalajara, Jalisco, and from an early age he showed interest in the seventh art. He studied at the Center for Research and Cinematographic Studies, in that entity, where he graduated in 1983.
On Sunday, March 4, 2018, Guillermo del Toro was awarded two Oscars, for Best Director, and for Best Film with The Shape of Water, becoming the fourth Mexican director to do so in the last five years.
