The company headed by Agustin Coppel will also continue to explore the stores inside shopping centers, although according to Domingo Soto, the formats of its units are displayed according to the cities in which they arrive.
These units are added to the chain’s plans to open 100 stores this year, as part of the opening plan that was announced in June last year. This plan considers an investment of 40,000 million pesos by 2024, to open 350 new stores and the remodeling of another 385 branches.
“The decision is made by the client, we have been entering shopping centers and we have studied the shopping centers in the country. We are getting into those where we are giving access to customers, ”he declared in a meeting with the media.
They are going for 2,000 stores by 2025
The chain, which has 1,750 stores in the country, plans to open its 2,000th store in 2025. An accelerated growth after it took 70 years to open its 1,000th unit, in San Juan Teotihuacán, on August 2, 2012.
“It is a record year, with more openings after we bought Viana in 2015, when we opened 50 stores from one day to the next. And we will continue to open stores at this rate the first year and the next,” she stated.
The manager added that, despite the high levels of inflation and the rises in interest rates, traffic on the sales floor has not decreased, while customers choose to buy more on credit.
Viana Salto del Agua is now Coppel
The company spent 144 million pesos in the reconstruction and remodeling of its store located in Salto del Agua, located in the center of Mexico City, one of the iconic stores that had operated for decades under the Viana rubric. Coppel bought the chain they bought in 2015.
The five floors of this store were demolished after the 2019 earthquake to make way for a four-story unit, with higher ceilings, and more than 1,000 square meters of sales floor.
As part of these renovations and the rescue of these commercial corners located on high-traffic avenues, coppel the remodeling of the unit located in San Cosme, in Mexico City, is ready.
The second, located at the corner of Insurgentes Norte and San Cosme, will be the largest in the city and will open its doors during the first quarter of next year.
“They are two very emblematic stores at crossroads (of important and busy avenues). These locations are also more profitable, they end up selling more than standard stores”, declares the manager.
