With the large number of platforms offering free TV, Google is in talks with several companies to integrate your channels directly into Google TV, the Android TV that is included in the latest Chromecast and in certain televisions, such as Sony or TCL. According to rumors, free channels could hit Android TV in the fall.
Android TV is an operating system that gives access to the most important streaming platforms in the world, the most common content on a television. And Google TV, the layer that is gradually spreading to a good part of Android TV, includes grill recommendations to help you make the tough decision of what to watch. And these recommendations could go further if Google decides to introduce free and pre-installed channels.
Free TV and no need to install applications
The Google TV grid enhances the smart use of Android TV apps when displaying personalized recommendations according to user tastes. This content is at the touch of a button as long as there are apps that offer it. If the Google conversations materialize, the television will offer content to play directly, without installing anything.
We have more and more television applications with channels that are completely free and subsidized with advertising. Pluto TV is a good example of how far this concept can go, also platforms such as Rlaxx TV, RTVE Play or Tivify, for example. Given this range of options, Google would be preparing to add some of those channels to your Android TV.
As the Protocol medium (Via XDA Developers) advanced, Google is in talks with some free television providers to include their channels on Google TV. This would allow your users access content free of charge and subsidized by advertising; without installing anything since the channels would be integrated into the Android TV software itself.
At the moment we do not know more information about what those channels could be, although it is most likely that Google will end up adding local broadcasts and streaming platforms, such as Pluto TV. Protocol confirmed the conversations with the companies and an approximate date for the Google TV update: fall 2021. However, Google could delay the appearance of the channels at the beginning of 2022 in order to announce the agreements with the different partners, such as Sony or TCL.
Free channels would come to Google TV, the Android TV that equips the latest Chromecast and some other players, such as the Sony and TCL TVs. Google is expanding Google TV to other Android TV devices.
