Instax Mini Evo
Photography is a tool for giving and sharing. “This is not a camera that only takes photos, but also gives them to you,” said Verónica Maldonado, Fujifilm’s marketing manager in Mexico.
This product is different from other Instax. Physically it resembles a classic analog camera, but what sets it apart from other models is that it is also a digital camera, making it a hybrid camera.
On the back it has a 3-inch screen that allows you to see the adjustments you can make to the photo before capturing it and, once taken, you can see it as many times as necessary to decide whether you want to print it or not.
To print the photo, you just have to pull a trigger and the camera will do it automatically. The photo takes approximately a minute and a half to appear.
It has 10 types of films and 10 different lenses. For example, you can choose a fisheye lens with sepia film or a half frame lens with pale film and this is how the image will be taken. This allows you to make up to 100 different combinations between lenses and films.
Also, the camera has two shutters; one at the top and one at the front, in the upper right corner. Next to it is a small mirror, the purpose of which is to facilitate selfie. Next to it is the flash.
It has a dimension of 36 x 123 x 87 mm and weighs 285 grams, which makes it a compact and light camera to carry everywhere.
Being a digital camera, its charging mode is through micro USB C and the battery can last approximately 100 photographs. On the other hand, the photos are stored on a micro SD card. Its cost is 5,799 pesos.
Is the Instax Evo Mini worth buying?
This is a high-end instant camera and although it costs 5,799 pesos, you have to consider that the business model is based on the Fujifilm cartridges that you have to constantly buy to print the photos. A basic package of 20 movies costs 349 pesos on Amazon. This means that each photograph you print would range between 15 and 20 pesos. You can only buy this brand.
On the other hand, what this camera offers is the experience of instant printing over the quality of the images. It has a very small sensor, so the resolution of the images is 3 megapixels. This would be similar to the camera of a mid-range phone.
This also means that if you want to print the photograph in another format, the largest you can aim for without losing as much quality is a 10x15cm print.
Considering these factors, the camera is worth buying if you’re looking for the instant photography experience over quality or size. Its attractive physical model, the ease of transporting it and the new incorporation of the digital screen are extras over other instant cameras.
