Fruits in syrup are obtained from fruits with a degree of maturity, they must be healthy, fresh, clean, they are selected to remove the parts that are not edible, they are added together with a standard syrup, they are packaged and thermally processed to its conservation.
What did the study look at?
In the magazine of the month of January, it is detailed that 46 products were analyzed, of which:
- 28 were fruits in syrup.
- 2 fruits in sweeteners.
- 1 canned fruit with stevia.
- 5 fresh fruits.
- 10 dehydrated fruits.
Profeco explained that the study focused on verifying the content of water, carbohydrates, protein, sugars, added sugars, energy content, net content and drained mass.
What products do not comply with the established?
A total of five products that do not comply with the establishedtwo presentations of fruit in syrup contain less product than declared on their label, these are:
- From the Mount. Pineapple slices in syrup, which was found to be 3.4% less than the net content declared on the label.
- The Coast. Mango in syrup had 19.9% less than the declared drained mass.
About the brands that contain non-caloric sweeteners, not recommended for children, are:
- Great value. Canned pineapple slices of 800 gr, which contains stevia.
- Del Monte Quality. Peach Chunks in Artificially Sweetened Water with No Sugar Added, 16 oz, contains non-caloric sweetener sucralose.
- Dole Sunshine For All. Presentation of 452 gr of peach. Contains stevia non-caloric sweetener.
