Fred “Ladd” Laderman, producer, screenwriter and pioneer in the anime industry in West, passed away on August 3 at 94 years of age. Ladd was responsible for introducing some cult anime to North America, and as a consequence, also to Mexico.
Specifically, during the decade of the years 60, Ladd served as a key piece in the introduction of Astro boy to our continent, thus making it the first anime to be broadcast both in USA as in Mexico.
Following the massive success of Astro Boy, Ladd discovered that there was a strong audience in our territory for products like anime, so later it also brought other things like Gigantor and Kimba, the White Lion. Decades later, in the 90s, Ladd he also became a creative consultant for the English dubbing of Sailor Moon.
Rest in peace, Fred Laderman.
