Carter is an American politician of the Democratic Party. He was the thirty-ninth president of the United States, from 1977 to 1981, and also the governor of Georgia, from 1971 to 1975.
In 2002, he won the Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution to peaceful solutions to international conflicts, for promoting democracy and human rights, and promoting economic and social development.
More than seven years ago he announced that he was diagnosed with metastatic cancer, but months later he underwent tests that concluded that he had defeated the disease.
Carter is fond of painting, fishing, working with wood, cycling, tennis, and skiing.
He married Rosalynn Carter in 1946, with whom he has four children: John William, James Earl, Donnel Jeffrey, Amy Lynn.
