In Llano Grande, Antioquia, Father Francisco de Roux and Commissioners Leyner Palacios and Lucía González listened for more than two hours to former President Álvaro Uribe, who referred to his democratic security policy, cases of false positives and the Havana Accords. . Prior to the meeting that began at 10:00 in the morning at the former president’s residence, Former Minister Álvaro Leyva Durán harshly questioned the meeting, which he described as a “farce” and a “shame” because Uribe does not recognize the Peace Accords.
“If Uribe does not recognize the Havana Agreement, why does he resort to the president of the Truth Commission? It is he who looks for the father and de Roux comes because he is a man of lofty virtues. To me, with the respect that everyone deserves, it seems to me an initiative by Uribe with the smell of a fix.”Said Leyva Durán through a video posted on his Twitter account.
The former president had sent a guide for the conversation with more than 90 points that he wanted to discuss with the commissioners, among which he clarified, as he did in the middle of the conversation, that it was not a contribution because he could not recognize the institutions created by the Peace Agreement.
“Uribe’s statement disqualifies his interlocutor, Roux’s father, and disqualifies himself. He has previously confessed that he does not know the Commission, to the Special Jurisdiction for Peace JEP, to the entire system, the endorsement of the agreements by Congress is passed through the belt, a path indicated by the Constitutional Court in case of losing the plebiscite ”, added Leyva Durán.
He affirmed that even though this is the legal path for the endorsement of the Peace Agreement with the FARC, and Uribe participated in the renegotiation of the agreements after the No victory in the 2016 plebiscite, the ex-president is still unaware of those institutions.
“Why the charade then? Lack of shame I guess“Said the former minister who, since the Constituent Assembly of 1991, sought the inclusion of possible peace agreements with armed groups, and was one of the architects of the table of talks between the government of Juan Manuel Santos and the Farc, which ended with the signing between the parties in Havana.
During the conversation with de Roux, Álvaro Uribe said that he was unaware of the Truth Commission, so the meeting could not be considered a contribution. However, he said he respected the father and the commissioners.
“I have to make it clear: I cannot ignore that just as they recognize the legitimacy of President Duque, we have to recognize the legitimacy of all the institutions. I do not have to accept that, as I recognize the legitimacy of President Duque, I also have to acknowledge the legitimacy of this institution or the institutions of Havana, their origins are very different. As the father mentioned, I am respectfully obliged to give him this explanation, “said the former Senator of the Democratic Center.
As he has reiterated, he does not know the legitimacy of the institutions created by the Peace Accords, because he considers that their implementation after the plebiscite for peace were unconstitutional, because the requests of the Democratic Center were not heard.
“I am obliged to repeat what I have always said, the day he did not win the plebiscite, we, who were championing the no, never asked for the government’s word to be fulfilled at that time that there was no agreement, we said: we want peace What we want is an agreement that reforms the Havana Accords. No important aspect, despite the proposed concessions and alternatives, was accepted and this was not amended with a participatory process, nor with a constitutional reform contrary to the rule of law, a constitutional reform, nor with a law of the republic, which would have A mechanism other than direct participation has been very questionable, but with a proposal, ”said Uribe in conversation with de Roux.
