Vueling has launched its facial recognition system in Spain, allowing passengers to fly without having to show their boarding pass or ID. It is the first airline that, in association with AENA, allows the use of this system that seems to be the future of air aviation, judging by the enthusiasm that many companies show for this technology.
How could it be otherwise, It is voluntary and requires prior registration by the passenger, but once done you can get on the plane, or go through security control, without needing to show any document, just using your face data. Facial data that, logically, we will have to transfer to a third party to safeguard them and verify our identity with them.
Vueling’s facial recognition system is deployed at the airports of Barcelona-El Prat, Madrid-Barajas, Palma de Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, which will soon be added, as confirmed by the company itself, at the airports of Tenerife North and Gran Canaria.
AENA will guard your facial data, not Vueling
As was done in the past with the sale of tickets or boarding passes (Vueling was the first to offer these services from an app), the face registration process is done from the app itself at the time of check-in. check-in.
You only have to do the process once, and on subsequent flights you will only have to activate it. However, it is not necessary to buy a ticket, since the company already allows register your face and your data without reservation through the Vueling app, to have it available on the next flight.
An important detail: although you register your face through Vueling, it is not the airline that manages said data, since AENA is in charge of this task. Furthermore, it is guaranteed that said data custody complies with protection regulations and will be used only for facial recognition.
Keep in mindIf you travel with minors and activate the service for you, they they wont be able bypass controls using your face. On the other hand, sIf you travel with a baby, yes it will happen to you, but you must validate their documents at the boarding gate. And another thing, facial recognition is only available for direct flights, not connecting ones.
