Facebook will now allow the same user to create multiple personal profiles. Each profile will have a unique feed, with relevant content based on the defined interests. You can change profiles without having to log in againlike on Instagram.
“Sometimes separating is easier, so we’re making it easier to personalize,” Facebook’s parent company Meta explained in its Blog. The company explained that it had received requests from users for a clearer organization of their friends, groups and interests. This, she added, will help them “feel more free to interact.”
So, for example, you can finally separate your group of friends from the group of your work colleagues. “We’ve seen the success of independent interest-based accounts on Instagram, so we’re excited to bring this option to Facebook,” Meta explained. The new functionality It began to be implemented globally this Thursday and will be available to all users in the coming months.
Facebook has more than 3 billion monthly active users, according to Meta’s latest quarterly report presented in July. The platform also noted that it then had about 2,064 million daily active users, compared to 2,037 million in the previous quarter.
How does the multiple profiles option work on Facebook?
You can choose a name and @username for up to four personal profiles. The idea is that, in each one, you choose people or communities with shared interests. Your main Facebook profile will not show that you have several additional personal profiles.
The messaging service, for now, will be available within the Facebook application and on the additional profiles website. Meta explained that it will expand Messenger support to accommodate various profiles in the coming months.
Some other Facebook features will not be available yet for the multiple profiles feature. Among them, Appointments, Marketplace, Professional Mode and payments. Privacy and notification settings will need to be managed separately.
A Facebook spokesperson said they had been testing the option to create additional profiles for the past year. “We’ve seen a positive response to giving people more control if they want to separate their social graphs or organize profiles based on their interests,” he told TechCrunch.
Meta also explained that, while you can choose any name for the additional profiles, the same will not happen for the main profile. “We remain committed to preventing spoofing and misrepresentation, so additional profiles “They cannot be impersonated or used to misrepresent your identity, including your age or location.”
