For its part, aluminum prices reached an all-time high on Thursday, up to 3,382.50 dollars per ton.
The new high was reached shortly before 0600 GMT, breaking the previous record of $3,380.15 per tonne, set on July 11, 2008, before retreating slightly to $3,372.50 by 0730 GMT.
“The rise in aluminum prices was foreseeable once Russia attacked Ukraine,” Daniel Briesemann, an analyst at Commerzbank, told AFP.
The invasion of Ukraine also pushed the price of a barrel of oil above $100 for the first time in more than seven years. Brent oil reached 100.04 dollars per barrel.
