Elon Musk has an open war with OpenAI that is facing them in court. The CEO of Tesla and X filed a lawsuit against the artificial intelligence company last February under the premise that the company had deviated from its core mission: that of building a responsible and open artificial intelligence.
For Elon Musk, this was reason enough to sue OpenAI, since the magnate considers that the company's current activity contravenes its founding principles. According to the original lawsuit, Musk believes that OpenAI Inc. has transformed into a de facto closed-source subsidiary of the world's largest technology company: Microsoft.
Now, OpenAI has answered the demand by Elon Musk pointing out that the businessman's statements “are based on complicated, often incoherent factual premises.” The company considers that at no time did it violate the agreement it had with Musk to be an open company or with a different founding mission, because, in reality, according to OpenAI, ““There is no founding agreement, nor any agreement with Musk, as the complaint itself makes clear.”.
Crossing of accusations between Elon Musk and OpenAI due to the 'open nature' of the latter
In addition to making it clear that Elon Musk's claims have no real basis, the company has regretted having reached this situation. On March 5, the company issued a statement on its blog on the subject. In it, OpenAI even reveals an exchange of emails between Musk and the company, in which it is also made clear that the path of offering OpenAI technology openly is bad news, to which Elon agrees, just the opposite of the claims of the lawsuit filed by the CEO of Tesla:
As we get closer to building AI, it will make sense to start being less open. The open in OpenAI means that everyone should benefit from the fruits of the AI once it is built, but it is totally fine not to share the science (although sharing everything is definitely the right strategy in the short and possibly medium term for recruiting purposes).
Yup
Elon Musk's response to the email
OpenAI also wanted to confirm the disappointment that the whole matter with Elon Musk has caused: “someone who inspired us to aim higher, then told us we would fail, created a competitor and then sued us when we begin to make significant progress toward OpenAI's mission without it.”
