Elon Musk has categorically denied being or having periodically used illegal drugs in the past yearsafter a report of The Wall Street Journal stating the opposite. According to him, the consumption would be such that it would have worried the directors of Tesla and SpaceX, two of the firms where the executive has a more visible profile.
Through his X / Twitter profile, and in response to comments from another user to the aforementioned article, Musk has assured that “After that hit with Rogan, I agreed, at NASA’s request, to do 3 years of random drug testing. Not even a trace of drugs or alcohol was found.”
Of course, Musk is referring to that famous scene on Joe Rogan’s podcast, which quickly went viral, where he appeared smoking a joint.
Elon Musk’s well-known flirtation with drugs
This is not the first time that there has been evidence of the use of certain types of substances by Musk. According to the article, “The richest person in the world has used LSD, cocaine, ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms, often at private parties around the world”citing anonymous witnesses close to the technology guru.
Besides, Musk is known to regularly consume ketamine. According to himself, he uses microdoses to control depression, as prescribed. However, the report also points to recreational use and in greater quantities at parties, along with his brother Kimbal.
Alex Spiro, Musk’s lawyer, has assured the media that the manager undergoes “regular and random drug tests at SpaceX and has never failed one.”
Concern in Tesla and Space for Elon Musk
The article expressly mentions that certain managers have shown concern over the years about Musk’s volatile behavior and his possible relationship with drug use. The clearest example occurred in 2018, when a tweet promising to make Tesla private ended up provoking a lawsuit from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and forcing him to step down as president of the company. The manager had put the figure at $420, a common term among marijuana consumers.
According to him WSJ, this type of situation would have caused increasing tension in their positions of responsibility. Although it has never been expressly mentioned in meetings, in the past there would also have been approaches with Kimbal Musk to talk about his brother’s behavior.
So much Tesla and SpaceX position themselves as drug-free companies. Any use of them by your employees would be severely penalized; more so now, if possible, that the special company has several million-dollar contracts with the United States Government.
