The Czech brand Skoda has officially presented the Skoda Epiq, an electric car that has many options to conquer the European market. The reason is simple: it has everything that a modern consumer demands. It is an SUV with 100% electric motor and with a price that will range from 25,000 euros before aid. In addition, it will be manufactured in Pamplona (Spain), which is always a plus for the local market.
The vehicle will be based on the platform MEB Entry, the same one that Volkswagen will use for the ID.2 ALL, the electric compact that will be manufactured in Martorell (Spain). This variation of the MEB that the group uses in other vehicles (such as the ID.4) is focused on smaller and, above all, more accessible electric cars.
Skoda Epiq adopts a new design language
The Skoda Epiq It is 4.1 meters long and adopts the Czech brand's Modern Solid design language. Due to dimensions, it begins to compete with other vehicles such as the Peugeot E-2008 or the Opel Mokka, two SUVs also belonging to the B segment.
An interesting fact is that the Skoda Epiq It will have a trunk capacity of 490 liters, a quite commendable figure considering the dimensions of the vehicle and the segment to which it belongs. However, we will have to wait for the final version to find out exactly how Skoda has achieved this milestone.
Its interior is filled with “durable, practical and sustainable materials”, a philosophy that is combined with a simple and minimalist design, as in most electric cars. In the interior shown by the brand, you can see two screens – a digital instrument panel and a central screen –, several control knobs in the lower area of the dashboard and a steering wheel with physical controls. The rest of the interior of the new Skoda Epiq is free of buttons or control elements.
As far as technology is concerned, Skoda has not given many details, but it does mention the presence of radars and cameras on the front grille of the vehicle, the possibility of mounting matrix headlights, the option of accessing the vehicle through digital keys on the mobile phone and the presence of a wireless charger for smartphones under the center console.
More than 400 km of WLTP autonomy
As far as autonomy is concerned, The brand has only confirmed that the Skoda Epiq will overcome the 400 km WLTP barrier, but has not detailed either the battery capacities or the motors. He also has not provided information on charging speed, a key factor in electric vehicles when tackling a long-distance trip. What he has announced is that the car has V2H, that is, its battery can be connected to a home electrical installation to act as an electricity supplier.
The vehicle will hit the market in 2026, although the presentation of the final model will occur a few months earlier, in 2025. The company assures that the Skoda Epiq will cost around 25,000 euros – probably before aid, although the brand has not specified this in its statement. This is a figure similar to that published by other brands in the group in relation to vehicles based on the MEB Entry platform.
When it lands on the market, Skoda will not only have to compete with traditional brands, but also with the numerous Chinese companies that are beginning to make their way into Europe. Among them, MG and BYD, which have already taken over certain percentages of market share in Spain. For the group, therefore, it is a strategic vehicle.
