Like a Disneyland of agriculturethis is how we could define Fruit Attraction, the most important sector fair in the sector in Spain and one of the most powerful in Europe, which in this edition has increased its capacity, number of exhibitors and number of visitors.
Closed to the general public, but key for the professional publicFruit Attraction is one of the unavoidable events for everything that surrounds the field to find out how the sector will move in the coming years.
Although the fair involves very different actors – including machinery, fertilizers, packaging machines… – there is also an important collection of producers who advertise their news here and where 2023 has left us, why deny it, a good taste in our mouths.
Regarding the singularities of the edition, it is impossible not to mention the stellar appearance of the Sunions onion, that boasts of not stinging and not making people cry. Of which we can attest, because it was the first thing we tried at the fair—despite going on an empty stomach—and the result could not be better.
The best of Fruit Attraction 2023
Also focused on a world plant-based increasingly powerful, the industry also seeks solace in products that, based on vegetable protein, begin to compete in this motley sector.
Of what we tried, one of the most curious—and successful—new features was the tajin of chickpeas and false beef and rice with curry and false chicken from Surinver, two very successful products both in flavor and texture.
Not behind in terms of curiosity, although more traditional, is the green asparagus jam that the San Isidro cooperative does, in Loja, Granada. Singular, and very much so, is the Genuine Coconut, an initiative from a company from Zaragoza that invites you to consume coconut as a drink, consuming it directly from the fruit itself, as if it were a can.
Also from Zaragoza comes one of the peculiarities of the fair, which is the small company Innoflower, dedicated to growing flowers for haute cuisine and that among its clients it has hoteliers such as the Torres Brothers or the Gente Rara restaurant, also in Zaragoza, and that among its treasures they have the so-called Sichuan flower or Sichuan button, an edible flower that generates a kind of electrical spasm in the mouth and a very curious numbness sensation.
Among the disruptions, another Rioja company like Vallondo, which offers its lion’s mane mushroom to develop at home, including cultivation instructions, and the also Rioja-based Xexprimer, a start-up of juices and cold soups based on the method cold press.
Nor, as an innovation, is Hortet’s domestic garden, which poses a structure of live lettuces on a wooden panel with misting which is the perfect alternative for hoteliers and distribution to really have fresh lettuce on their plates and stores.
