Spain has woken up full of haze. Yesterday we could already see the photos of Murcia and Almería with an extremely orange sky, due to the wave of dust in suspension that crosses our country. But today, who more and who less, has woken up with the hood of the car full of dust and our skies announce rain of mud.
It is not uncommon, therefore, that many of us are wondering if it is a good idea to go outside without any protection and breathe this air. And do sports? Is it a good idea to go out for a run or play sports today? We tell you.
Safety measures to take care of our respiratory health during the calima
Although the photographs with this sky can be beautiful, the reality is that this dust can affect our health. Some of the things we can notice are respiratory tract irritation, itchy eyesworsening of symptoms in people suffering from asthma or bronchitis, and discomfort in the throat among others.
Therefore, it is important that we protect ourselves. Especially in the areas of the country where we find more haze presence. In this sense, from the Cabildo de Tenerife they give a series of advice:
From the Government of the Canary Islands they also recommend not going out on the street if it is not necessary and keep house doors and windows closed. We can clean dusty surfaces with damp cloths and, of course, if we are out on the street we can use FFP2 masks that will protect us from dust particles.
Go for a run or play sports outdoors in the heat
Considering that the ideal is be in the street as little as possible and try not to breathe the dust of hazewe can already get an idea of what the recommendation is about doing sports outdoors.
But, in case we have any doubts, one of the main recommendations of both the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Government of the Canary Islands is not doing physical exercise outside while the situation lasts. This is especially true for those areas of Spain where air pollution is high.
In those areas of the country where this pollution is not so high, we can choose the lowest hours of pollution. It is also recommended to practice sport with a mask. In any case, today can be a good day to take it as a break or do our training indoors.
