Daily chores prevent many women from having enough time to take care of themselves properly. The lack of exercise and a balanced diet in old age, coupled with the stress that comes with fulfilling work duties, have an impact on the appearance of a series of problems for female health, which can contribute to developing a lack of hormonal balance.
The alteration of hormones is one of the most significant problems in female health, since these chemical substances, produced by different glands, help regulate different activities of the organism such as growth, sexual life and metabolism, among others.
“The hormonal balance in women is essential for health care. Given this, diagnostic tests are essential allies for the monitoring and timely detection of any irregularity. Although these problems occur more frequently in older women, it is vital that young women see their doctor for regular tests,” says Dr. Roberto Santos González, manager of the Consumer and Home Products division at kablaa company dedicated to the distribution of diagnostic devices.
menopause and depression
Data from the Center for Gender Equity and Reproductive Health of the Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion in Mexico reveal that between 40 and 45 years is the average age at which Mexican women present hormonal problems due to irregularities in their ovulation cycles. and the decrease in hormones such as progesterone, that is, they reach menopause.
The most notorious symptoms of this period are: poor regulation in weight control, sudden changes in mood, hot flashes, constant fatigue, vaginal dryness, difficulties falling asleep, loss of libido (sexual desire), and, in some cases it can lead to the appearance of chronic-degenerative diseases such as osteoporosis, cardiovascular problems, the development of different types of cancer or acute depression.
In this context, data from the World Health Organization (WHO) highlight that one of the main public health problems is depression, since more than 4% of the world population lives with this condition, the majority of which are women.
This disorder represents the fourth cause of disability in the loss of healthy years. In Mexico, figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) reveal that depression ranks first in terms of disability for women and ninth for men, since of 34.8 million who have suffered from it, 20.37 million were women.
Although depression is caused by a number of different external factors, such as the loss of a loved one or being under constant stress, in women, especially those who are entering the menopause stage, this can be an important indicator of a hormonal imbalance.
Another association between female hormonal imbalance and mood occurs in women of reproductive age. According to information from the Juan Ramón de la Fuente National Institute of Psychiatry, 50% of those who give birth experience some change in their mood, generally sadness; but only 10-15% experience postpartum depression and only 1% have postpartum psychosis.
Prevention is the best ally
Given these indicators, it is important to generate a culture of prevention to detect any condition associated with hormonal imbalance in time. For this, it is essential to see a specialist in the area, who will be able to carry out a complete assessment of the patient’s state of health and determine the best treatment for each case.
“Hormonal laboratory techniques, together with the medical technology that is available today, have allowed considerable progress to improve hormonal measurements, which is why today there are more highly effective tools to detect any possible imbalance in the body”, concludes the Kabla specialist.
