The end of Dacia diesel cars is drawing near. The popular cheap car brand is ready to put aside. A decision that a priori is difficult to understand if we take into account that Dacia diesel cars have been and are a best seller in Europe. So why does Dacia abandon diesel? The answer is in Europe.
Dacia It is no stranger to the changes that are taking place in the automotive industry. The popular cheap car brand has also started its electrification process. A transition to the electric car that, although it will be slower than that of other firms, will end up being a reality if it wants to stay alive in Europe. Even more so when the death of the internal combustion engine has been ruled in 2035.
But we are not only talking about the disappearance of the thermal car. As this occurs, if the European Union does not finally change its mind, it is necessary for Dacia to adapt its product offer to the new and restrictive emission regulations that will soon come into force. The dreaded arrival of the Euro 7 standard will be a turning point for the automotive sector. And in the spotlight is neither more nor less than the diesel car.
These are not good times for the diesel car
The diesel car has seen how in a short space of time its market share has been reduced in a worrying way. The demonization of diesel is achieving the desired objective, and that is that the public chooses to put aside this fuel to opt for other mobility options. Be it a gasoline, hybrid or electric car. Nevertheless, Dacia can boast that its diesel cars have been and are a bestseller.
Despite the commercial success that Dacia models powered by a diesel engine have been achieving, the Romanian firm belonging to the Renault Group has decided to put this fuel aside. Currently there is only one diesel model in the Dacia range. This is the Dacia Duster. And the truth is that this version has its days numbered. A version that today plays a leading role.
Only the Duster with a diesel engine allows the 4×4 drive system to be configured in the Spanish market. Dacia’s plans go through withdrawing the diesel Duster at the time the next generational change occurs. That is, the third generation of the Duster will not have diesel versions. In its place will be gasoline engines, hybrid versions and bifuel (LPG).
Dacia can not continue betting on the diesel car
At the time that began its ambitious process of internal revolution with the launch of the new Sandero and Logan way back in 2020, it was pretty clear that diesel does not enter Dacia’s future plans. With the exception of the Duster (recently renewed), each of the new Dacia models that have been presented lacks mechanics powered by this fuel. All the prominence has fallen on gasoline and gas engines.
Dacia has been in the position of having to give up the diesel car even though their models are very popular. Future prospects are not very good for this fuel. Its demonization, added to the arrival of the Euro 7 standard and the acceleration of the transition process to the electrified vehicle, makes it really difficult to continue betting on diesel.
Unfortunately we can say that The Duster will be the last diesel car sold by Dacia in Europe. These are turbulent times and Mioveni’s company must deal with all these challenges.
