No surprises, as it was something widely expected in the world, the Madrid native Dabiz Muñoz has achieved a hat trick by being crowned the best chef in the world for the third consecutive year according to The Best Chef Awardsan award that he received for the first time in 2021 and with which he won again last year in Madrid.
At a gala held last night in Meridacapital of Yucatán (Mexico), in the first venue of this event outside of Europe, the DiverXO chef thus collected his third award, achieving first place in a list of 100 chefs from around the world.
In the top 10, four more Spaniards have also achieved recognition, with Albert Adrià, from the Enigma restaurant (Barcelona), as second, thus taking away the position that René Redzepi achieved in 2022. Muñoz received the award in a ceremony attended by more than 200 professionals from all over the world, with many well-known faces in the sector and regulars in this type of competition, and it was presented to him by two traditional Mayan cooks and the creative director of the contest, Cristian Gadau.
What is ‘The Best Chef Awards’
Under the name of ‘The Best Chef‘ This organization was born in 2015, a kind of independent private club founded by the Polish neuroscientist Joanna Slusarczyk and his own Cristian Gadau. With the aim of creating a kind of vibrant community of food lovers”, it was born as a project dedicated to celebrating the “talented chefs who create the best gastronomic experiences around the world”, seeking to create as a “global family of “Like-minded people who share the same culinary concerns.”
Without specifying specific criteria, theoretically these awards seek to discover new modern talents. However, judging by the presence of them names that repeat every year Among the candidates and winners, there seems to be little room to open up to new talents or diamonds in the rough yet to be discovered, beyond the usual media names.
