During childhood we learn through the senses and almost everything around us is a new horizon to discover. Then we have a mind open to knowledge, which is often compared to an absorbent sponge.
On the other hand, as we move towards maturity, individuals become much more calculating, and traditional education teaches us to avoid making mistakes and minimize risks.
The problem is that to be creative we need to be flexible, curious, and bold. Children are creative because they do not put restrictions on their imagination and are not afraid to transgress the norms of convention. We often think so much about the possibility of failure or embarrassment that we don’t dare to share creative ideas or undertake novel projects.
For example, it is very common for children and young people to be discouraged from opting for the arts or culture on the grounds that such talents are not useful from an economic or professional point of view. This is serious, since uninhibiting genuine passions and creative drives has a significant adverse effect on people’s development.
However, creativity is not exclusive to disciplines such as design or music. In fact, every profession, trade and occupation must use creative thinking as a resource to transform reality and improve the environment.
Medicine requires creative researchers to generate effective vaccines against diseases, just as Physics requires more representatives such as Albert Einstein, who embraced creativity to explain his scientific theories about the universe.
Public officials also demand high doses of creative thinking to address the problems that afflict communities; and entrepreneurs, without a doubt, constantly seek to broaden their vision to undertake innovative projects that produce wealth.
In order to develop this ability, in the first instance, it is necessary to understand that creativity is a process through which new ideas are produced that generate value. It is clear that these ideas do not arrive by themselves, but it is essential to stimulate the mind with experiences, knowledge and exchanges of points of view.
