“In said study, the details on costs, needs, scope, risks will be determined, and determine the possible coexistence between freight and passenger trains. In addition to having technical elements for its possible operation,” the company said in a statement. “Once this study is completed, the federal government will evaluate the completion of the project.”
In the morning, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador affirmed that an agreement had been established with the company to study the project, which would run on the road that CPKC already has concessioned in Mexico.
“We already achieved about 15 days, 20 days ago, an agreement was signed where the company commits to carry out the project to see the feasibility, which I maintain that it has, and that a passenger train to Querétaro can be promoted, that will help a lot”, said the president in his morning conference.
CPKC is the new company resulting from the merger of Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern, which already operated in Mexico through a subsidiary, Kansas City Southern de México. It is currently the only company that offers transnational rail service on a single line linking Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
