The preventive detention against Emilio Lozoya Austin, former director of Pemex, closes the vicious circle of impunity that exists in Mexico, said Mario Delgado, the national president of Morena.
The political leader maintained that this episode breaks with a tradition of political protection towards corrupt officials that was exercised in administrations prior to that of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
“The arrest of Emilio Lozoya breaks the vicious cycle of impunity in Mexico where there was political protection for the corrupt, hopefully this case is an example of justice for the nation,” wrote Delgado Carrillo.

Lozoya Austin pleaded not guilty minutes before he was to be given justified preventive detention in the North Prison, and added that he did not escape from Mexico but went to Europe to review his financial affairs.
