Google Chrome for Windows and macOS becomes more efficient in its version 108. With the new features of Memory saving and Power saving, the browser finally addresses the constant high resource consumption issues. Along with this version, they also introduced improvements to the internal search engine for bookmarks, tabs, and history.
As Google comments in its Webwhen activating the Memory saving option, Chrome is capable of “using up to 30% less RAM“. In addition, you will see an icon in the search bar that, when touched, will show how many KB of memory were freed from other tabs.
The Power saving option, meanwhile, allows Chrome to consume less battery. By enabling this feature, Chrome limits some aspects of your experience. Among them, the activity in the background and some visual effects – animations, smoothness when scrolling and frames per second in videos.
This last function can be activated in several ways. One of them is to always have it on. The other two options allow you to customize if you want it to activate when you have 20% battery or less on your computer; or when it is disconnected from the current.
How to activate Energy saving and Memory saving in Google Chrome
Activating these new features is quite easy. Google has created a specific section in the Chrome Settings menu. Follow these steps.
- In Google Chrome, go to Setting by tapping on the three vertical dots in the upper right corner.
- Now look for the new option Performance in the left sidebar of options.
- It will be in this section where you will find Energy saving Y memory saving. In addition, you can customize the experience with the additional options that each one offers.
The Performance section is being rolled out to all users with Google Chrome version 108. If you already have it, but can’t find this feature, don’t worry. In a few days it should already appear; remember that deployments of this type can take weeks.
If it still doesn’t show up, there is still an option you can try. Typing these commands in the search bar you can activate them and immediately they will appear in your settings menu. Done, you can start testing the improvements of Google Chrome.
