It is an open secret. Chris Evans will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers/Captain America. Disney’s promotional machinery is very precise and each of the comments made by important actors is not a coincidence, nor an accident. Except for exceptional cases, of course.
But it has never been the case for Chris Evans. Even though his departure was planned years before, the way he announced himself was dropper, very dosed. Through interviews that suggested a movement, but it was not clear. Until it was released Avengers: Endgameof course, the last production in which the actor played Steve Rogers.
But because of the way the character’s story ended, the door has always been open for new stories. And it is precisely what Evans has stated during his appearance at the convention C2E2 in Chicago, United States.
He began with the speech that he has maintained since his departure: “I am very connected to the role, but it does not feel good to return right now.” But he also explained that “it’s hard, because I love the character. He means so much to me, and I think there are many Steve Rogers stories to tell.” Therein lies the key: a clear confirmation that he will, inevitably, return.
He then continued: “I’m very careful with this,” referring to the character. “It’s like this shiny little thing that I love so much, and I don’t want to ruin it in any way. It’s part of such a special period in my life, and it worked really well in a way.
We insist: Disney’s promotional and communication machinery is very precise. In November 2022 Chris Evans put his feet in the water in relation to a possible return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, accepting that he misses the character. He also mentioned the possibility of coming back as Human Torchone of the 4 fantastic whom he played in two films released in 2005 and 2007.
Chris Evans and the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Chris Evans’ passage through the Marvel Cinematic Universe coincided with his best moment. That the actor wants to return, but doesn’t, shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, considering the current state of the franchise, which seems to have never quite found its place.
There is also the possibility that the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America will be reserved for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty either Avengers: Secret Wars. The latter, above all, has the possibility of bringing a good number of dead or retired superheroes back, even alternate versions from other universes.
