Nobody likes to get up early. And even less if what is going to wake you up is an unpleasant alarm sound. But this can be fixed. You’re going to have to get up early anyway, but at least you’ll wake up with the music you like the most to make it more bearable. And what better than Spotify as alarm with that song that puts you in a good mood or activates you in a matter of seconds.
By default, Spotify does not have a alarm to wake you up. At least within the application itself. You can, however, ask it to turn off if you fall asleep listening to music. This way you won’t drain your phone’s battery. And it will also serve as a warning for go to bed at a decent hour. But that’s the opposite of what we want to do now. Our goal is to wake up with Spotify music as an alarm.
To make it easy, there are applications specialized in this function. Available for iPhone and Android, they will allow you turn Spotify into a wake-up alarm that will make you wake up in the morning with a different face. A way to make getting up early each day more bearable. You choose the song that will play depending on your mood or the push you need.
Morning Alarm for Spotify (iPhone)
The simplest way to use Spotify as an alarm on your iPhone is using an application like Morning. Or by its full name, Morning Alarm for Spotify. It is exclusive for iOS, so you can install it on iPhone and iPad. Although it has paid functions, for free you can integrate Spotify songs as an alarm clock. And, in principle, it works with free accounts from Spotify.
To set the alarm you will only have to tell it what time you have to wake up and then choose the music service. In this case Spotify, although it also works with Apple Music. Then choose the song you want to play at the exact time from your albums and playlists favorites. Like any self-respecting alarm, it has a snooze button to prolong sleep a little longer. Although you can also let them soundand the song and/or turn off the alarm directly.
IFTTT + Spotify (iPhone + Android)
Another way to wake up with Spotify as an alarm is through automation. Your iPhone has by default an automation tool called Shortcuts. It gets along well with Apple Music, logically, but not so much with Spotify. To the point that there are no shortcuts already designed for this app. And although there are users who have created shortcuts to use Spotify as an alarm clockthose have been disappearing, so they are not available.
Alternatively, we can use IFTTT, which is an automation tool that you can use on the web and install as app on your iPhone. And also on Android. Once installed, in the application itself you will find automations related to Spotify. The one we are interested in is called Play a Spotify song when the clock hits a certain hour. As its name suggests, it will play Spotify music as an alarm clock at the time you tell it. The only drawback is that you need Spotify Premium to work.
Google Watch (Android)
If your phone is Android, since 2018 Spotify has been integrated into the Google clock, which is installed by default in the operating system. So if you wake up every morning with the help of the alarms on that clock, you can add songs from Spotify to give some joy to your awakenings. The process is relatively simple and works for both Spotify and YouTube Music. Additionally, it works with free accounts from Spotify, so you won’t need the Premium subscription.
