Sigma, which used to rely on American brands, has begun to incorporate Japanese and, recently, Chinese vehicles into its delivery fleet. Last year, the Alfa subsidiary company acquired nine electric and 11 internal combustion units from the Chinese brand Foton, which entered the Mexican market four years ago.
“We are looking for performance and economic efficiency, and if emerging brands, like Foton, offer us advantages in terms of savings, we are willing to open ourselves to innovation and trust the brand,” declared Antonio Rodríguez Piña, in charge of fleet acquisition. for the company, during an interview with Expansion.
In addition to Foton, Sigma is also incorporating JAC brand vehicles into its utility fleet.
Coppel Group has also taken its first steps in acquiring Chinese vehicles mainly because it has found in these manufacturers the offer that best suits its needs.
José Raúl Salazar Ortiz, transportation coordinator at Coppel, highlighted during an interview with Expansion which, through tests and analysis, have confirmed that Chinese vehicles show a more consolidated maturity in the field of electric vehicles compared to American or European brands. In addition, they have understood the market’s need to offer electric vehicles at competitive prices.
The company has been evaluating 20 Foton brand electric delivery units, which has led to the signing of a contract to acquire 200 additional units. This is part of its goal for 50% of its fleet, both for last mile deliveries and utility vehicles, to be electric by 2030.
Likewise, Coppel has 64 units of JAC vehicles and is about to conclude the purchase of 70 units of the JAC X350 model.
