The head of US diplomacy, Antony Blinken, said in an interview on Sunday that there is “concern” that China is considering sending “lethal support” to Russia for the offensive in Ukraine.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang WenbinI affirm that “it is the United States and not China that is constantly sending weapons to the battlefield”when questioned about the statements of the American nation.
The Chinese spokesman called on the United States to “seriously reflect on its own actions and make more efforts to calm the situation, promote peace and dialogue, and stop blaming others and spreading false information.”
“China’s position on the Ukraine issue can be summed up in one sentence: encourage peace and promote dialogue,” he insisted at a press conference.
The offensive launched by Russia against Ukraine is a difficult issue for China, which has sought to position itself as a neutral country, but gives diplomatic support to Moscow, which is a strategic ally of Beijing.
“It is clear to the international community who is calling for dialogue and fighting for peace, and who is fanning the fire,” Wang added, reiterating China’s call for support for his proposal to end the war.
On Saturday, China announced that it will publish this week a proposal to find a “political solution” to the crisis in Ukraine, and the Chinese foreign minister said that his country is “on the side of dialogue.”
