Who is Charles Martinet?
Charles Martinet is a renowned dubbing actor who was born on September 17, 1955 in San Jose, California. In 1996 he began voicing the plumber in the video game Super Mario 64.
In addition to this character, he has also played other important roles in the world of Nintendo, such as the fearful brother, Luigi, in addition to his counterparts, Wario and Waluigi.
According to Martinet’s own statements, the Mario character allowed him to express “the best of me”, in addition to allowing him to share both Nintendo and his work with fans.
He has also highlighted that nostalgia is one of the main elements that he likes about being Mario. “I’ve heard wonderful things behind this character, like ‘you’re the voice of my childhood’ or the fact that they played with their parents and now younger generations play with their children.”
He has participated in other video games, such as The Elder Scrolls V, but also in movies, such as Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero (where he played one of the villains), or in the 1997 film starring Michael Douglas, The Game.
In Super Mario Bros., the movie, Martinet did not have the main role, but he did play two significant roles for fans. One was Giuseppe, a Brooklynite with an Italian accent reminiscent of Jumpman, the character that preceded Mario in video games. Likewise, he gave voice to Mario’s father.
