Polestar, the Swedish electric vehicle brand with close ties to Volvo, has announced a new update of his best known car: the Polestar 2. The new version, available later this year, will arrive with significant improvements in terms of power and range thanks to new engines and a more powerful battery. It also includes a new grille design and, for the first time, a new model with rear-wheel drive, among other novelties.
Polestar, in particular, has updated its Polestar 2 with some of the improvements that we already saw in the Polestar 3. new front grill designin fact, it’s pretty much the same as the one that comes with its electric SUV, and it also includes what the company calls SmartZonean active security system made up, in the case of the 2024 Polestar 2, of a front camera and a medium-range radar.
From the Polestar 3, the manufacturer has also inherited the 20-inch forged alloy wheelswhich now come to the Performance Pack.
The most relevant change of this new Polestar 2, however, is in the new motors and the new batteries. Those versions baptized as single engine now have rear-wheel drive, to which is added a new engine with a power of up to 299 horsepower and a torque of 740 Nm.
The sprint time is also improved. The standard and long-range versions can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 and 6.2 seconds, respectively. The dual-motor long-range variant, on the other hand, takes 4.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h thanks to its 421 hp engine, while the Performance model, with a 476-horsepower engine, goes from 0 to 100 in 4.2 seconds.
Polestar improves the batteries in its Polestar 2: up to 635 km of autonomy
The long-range versions of the new Polestar 2, in addition, they now have a 82 kWh battery compared to the 78 kWh of the previous generation, which allows a range of up to 635 km. The standard range versions remain at 69 kWh, but their transmission has been improved to be more efficient and, in addition, offer a longer charge. quick. It reaches up to 205 kW in the batteries of the long-range models and up to 135 kW in the case of the model standard range.
Finally, the new Polestar 2 now comes as standard with some features that until now were only available as an add-on. Among them, the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), support for wireless charging, 360-degree vision camera or auto-dimming exterior mirrors.
Regarding the price and the orders, The new Polestar 2 2024 start at 50,190 euros in the case of the standard version and reach up to 64,690 euros for the base version of the Performance model. The new versions are now available to order on the manufacturer’s website. They will not be sent, yes, until the third quarter of 2023.
