Street Fighter V was released in 2016 only for PlayStation 4 and PC, due to the fact that Sony financed the production of this game. Unfortunately the game received mixed reviews from fans and press upon its release, due to a significant lack of content. Basic fighters and game modes were missing.
Capcom later clarified that such a weak launch was due to the fact that they wanted to cater to the competitive scene, that is, to professional eSports players.
Over time Street Fighter V received more content and updates through online downloads. It beefed up its catalog of fighters, stages, and added a decent arcade mode, but several players were left with a bad taste in their mouths.
Now six years later and a new generation of consoles, Capcom gives us our first look at Street Fighter 6.
The trailer lets us see Ryu and another mysterious new fighter about to pick a fight.
We see a bearded Ryu with no clothes on his upper body. His appearance is similar to the one he has in a special skin for Street Fighter V, which was known to players as “Hot Ryu”.
The second fighter has a wristband that says “USA”. Remember that Ken, Ryu’s best friend and rival, is from the United States, and may be related to him.
Both the appearance of Ryu and the existence of this fighter suggest that this installment of Street Fighter could take place many years after Street Fighter 2, 4 and 5 (remember that the installments are not in chronological order).
The trailer does not specify a release date or what platforms it will be available on, but it will surely give fans a lot to talk about this year.
And you, who do you think will be that new fighter?
