The latest controversy of gastronomic dyes highlighted on Twitter is reinforced with a linguistic load, an issue that arouses many sensitivities in our country. The debate arose at last hour of last sundaywhen a user indignantly shared that the hamburger Vice of Barcelona did not have a letter available in Catalan, and neither claim sheet. But what is most viralizing the tweet is having resorted to 112 to record of your protest.
Thus, the tweeter Xavier Dengra i Grau (@xavidegr) reported yesterday in his account that the place that startup Vicio, born as a purely digital restaurant by the hand of Alex Puigwinner of MasterChef 7 and with a recent physical opening in the center of Barcelona, not only it lacked a menu written in Catalanbut they were also unable to provide him with the complaint form, which any public service is obliged to provide to consumers who request it.
«Vice» of Via Augusta 21, Barcelona.
Sense the letter in Catalan, we have demanded the full number of claims and not the tenien. Hem fet cridar els @Mossos: after >30 min waiting and 2 tricks at @112 they have not presented. Let’s finish Marxing.
Total lack of protection.
What a piece of country. pic.twitter.com/3RLdbKN0Sm– Xavier Dengra i Grau (@xavidegr) July 10, 2022
“Vicio de la Vía Augusta 21, Barcelona. Without the letter in Catalan, we asked for the complaint sheet and they did not have it. We tried to call the @Mossos: after > 30 minutes waiting and 2 calls to @112 They have presented. We just left. Total lack of protection. What a shitty country.”
Far from intending to give up their protest, the user and his companions decided to contact the relevant authorities, which in the case of Barcelona corresponds to the Mossos, but due to the lack of response they went on to contact the Guàrdia Urbana from the city. By informing you of this, which is not a matter of your competence, he was referred to 112so they finally tried to request the assistance of the emergency services.
The striking case has unleashed, as expected, responses of all kinds, from humorous comments to others more directly offensive, but also from Catalan tweeters who defend their language and who empathize with Dengra.
The truth is that, according to current regulations established by the Language Policy Lawas stated in its publication in the BOE, the restaurant must be able to offer its services in Catalan:
Companies and establishments dedicated to the sale of products or the provision of services that carry out their activity in Catalonia, without exception (…), which must have the documents offering services at least in Catalan (art. 32.3).
Any customer therefore has right to protest, and you also have the right to request the complaint sheet, which is mandatory throughout the national territory. If they do not have it, the user can request the assistance of the police to record it.
The reason why more is viralizing the matter, which is still anecdotal, is having finally contacted the emergency services through the number 112, being Dengra himself who recognizes in another tweet that said services have other prioritiesand it was his last resort as he received no assistance by other means.
All so that finally no authority will show up competent and leave without making the complaint official. Although we remember that you can always make a claim in Consumer Affairs later, without the need to receive any special form. It is enough to prepare a document setting out the data relating to the claimant and the person claimed, the facts and what is requested.
