San Salvador, Sep 1 (EFE) .- The National Association of Private Enterprise (ANEP) of El Salvador requested this Wednesday respect for judicial independence before a reform of Congress that dismisses judges in their sixties and facilitates their transfer between courts.
“ANEP urges that judicial independence and separation of powers be respected, as they are essential requirements for a business climate to exist and job creation is encouraged,” the union said in a statement.
He added that the reforms approved by the ruling parties, supposedly to purge the courts, “do not directly attack corruption,” but rather “compromise judicial independence.”
“An effective judicial system requires honest judges, but also independent of all powers; only then can citizens be sure that our rights will be respected,” he stressed.
A group of judges announced this Wednesday that they will appeal the reform in national and international instances.
“We will resort to national and international legal entities to restore the constitutional and democratic State of law seriously affected,” they said in a statement.
They expressed their “energetic rejection” of the accusations of the ruling parties, which pointed out that with the dismissal of the judges of 60 years of life or 30 years of career, the alleged corruption in the courts would end.
The judges stressed that regarding the judicial career, according to rulings of the Constitutional Chamber, it is incumbent upon him to propose reforms only to the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ).
The measure does not affect the magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice, among whom are former advisers and lawyers for senior government officials.
