3D food printers have long since ceased to be a novelty, and we have even tried domestic versions such as chocolate at home, but food technology is far from reaching its limit. Although printing a liquid seems more complex, a company has just presented what they claim is the first molecular beverage printer of the world.
Cana, the startup of Silicon Valley that has developed the product, announces his work as the next revolution in small appliances with which to reinvent the way we drink. Baptized as Cana Onethis first model seeks to be a form in addition to reduce water wastewaste and emissions derived from the industry and purchase and sale of beverages of all kinds.
The device, in the shape of a cube in a minimalist and simple design dominated by a touch screen, is conceived to fit into any kitchen or domestic corner to be an almost inexhaustible source of all kinds of drinks of the most varied nature, from coffee recipes to alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails, soft drinks, sports drinks or even beer and wine.
They describe it as a “molecular printer” because the team’s scientists have worked on its development for three years studying the molecules of the main beverages we consume in order to isolate chemical compounds of its aromas and flavors. In this way, they have managed to encapsulate these compounds in cartridges that, they say, are designed to last about a month.
The cartridges are loaded with aroma molecules and also ingredients such as sugar, alcohol, caffeine and CO2, in such a way that the user can customize the drinks and create their own recipes, or choose directly those provided by the machine or those that others can share on networks. And to prevent minors from consuming what they shouldn’t, they can be protected with a PIN code.
The company also offers a cartridge replacement service at home, and has already announced plans to develop future versions of the printer that can work with different texturessuch as juices with pulp, smoothies or more viscous and gelatinous consistencies.
The beverage printer is now available for preorder at a special introductory price of $499 (about 459 euros) for the first 10,000 orders; Once that figure is exceeded, it will cost 799 dollars (735 euros).
The distribution of the machine among the first buyers is expected to start early 2023, so we still have to wait to see if this line of innovation really has a future. At the moment there is no possibility of acquiring it from Spain.
