After going through a period of turbulence, Blade, one of the most anticipated films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, found its new director. According to information from Deadlinethe British Yann Demange, responsible of White Boy Rich, 71 Y Dead Setamong other productions, took the reins of the troubled project.
Likewise, the cited media outlet indicates that Michael Starrbury will be responsible for writing a new script. The aforementioned has participated in The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete, Legends of Chamberlain Heights, When They See Us Y Colin in black and white.
If there are no more obstacles in the way, Blade will resume production next year in Atlanta. Of course, since Deadline They mention that the feature film will probably no longer have that dark tone that the previous film proposed. And the reason is simple: while Marvel wanted the darkest movie ever seen in its Cinematic Universe, the previous proposal went beyond some limits, supposedly.
Let’s remember that, initially, Marvel Studios had chosen Bassam Tariq to direct Blade. However, it was in September of this year when the filmmaker left the production due to a series of creative differences. Those led by Kevin Feige, however, directed their statement in another direction.
“Due to changes to our production schedule, Bassam will step down as director of Blade, but will continue to executive produce the film. We appreciate Bassam’s talent and all the work he has done to bring Blade to life. where it is,” Marvel said.
This delicate situation not only caused the indeterminate pause of Blade, but also a delay in several key films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Between them Deadpool 3 (November 8, 2024), the fantastic four (February 14, 2025) and Avengers: Secret Wars (May 1, 2026).
With Yann Demange and Michael Starrbury, Marvel hopes to bring Blade a good port and without further setbacks on a creative level. Everything indicates that the visions of both parties coincide and the human-vampire hybrid, who will be played by Mahershala Aliit will have no more problems to debut in theaters on September 6, 2024.
It will be interesting to see what Demange and Starrbury’s plot idea is. The previous project promised too much because its commitment to that extremely dark tone was known. Lately, the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe lack fresh ideas, and Blade I came to propose something different. Will the new managers continue along that line? Surely next year we will have more information about it.
Prior to BladeYes, we can enjoy a good handful of Marvel movies: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17, 2023), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (5 May 2023), The Marvels (July 28, 2023), Captain America: New World Order (May 3, 2024) and thunderbolts (July 26, 2024).
