Agricultural vehicles increasingly come with more equipment. High technology and luxury seem to have reached the countryside, including artificial intelligence systems, cloud computing, autonomous driving, hydrogen combustion and faster and more efficient engines in the most modern tractors. But when we say that luxury has come to the countryside, we are not only talking in terms of machinery, but also of the brand.
It turns out that Lamborghini has a line of tractors and that its most expensive models are auctioned for around 450,000 euros. They are authentic jewels because of the history behind them.
Actually, these agricultural vehicles are not just any tractors, they were the precursors of the Lamborghini brand that we know today and that is synonymous with high-end sports cars. The mechanical skills of Ferruccio Lamborghini, creator of the company, made it one of the most famous automotive brands globally. But one very important fact must be highlighted: he got there after spending many years making tractors.
When World War II ended, Italy needed agricultural machinery and he, who had grown up among vineyards and knew the rural world and its needs well, had an idea. In 1948 he created Lamborghini Trattori in the city of Cento, Italy. The company used war materials recycled to build their first vehicles. This included engines and differentials from trucks and military vehicles from ARAR centers, mostly Mercedes. These machines were called “Carioca” tractors and were capable of starting on gasoline and switching to diesel.
Soon, the brand became a benchmark in the market for its quality and reliability and by 1952 it already offered a complete range of models, from the DL 15 to the DL 50. The company continued to expand its line during the decade with the introduction of the first Lamborghini tracked tractor and the Lamborghinetta, a small but powerful tractor that weighed just 1000 kg. In 1962, it introduced its first four-wheel drive tractor, setting a new standard for off-road performance.
Fame in the rural world allowed Ferruccio to make his dream come true: build luxury sports cars to beat Ferrari. And in the 1960s he decided to enter the high-end sports car market. This is how the Lamborghini Automobili brand was born, the brand we know today.
What happened to Lamborghini Trattori? He didn’t get rid of her. In fact, it continues to produce: it is now part of the Società Accomandita Motori Endotermici (SAME) business group. It has survived just like some of the most popular models that rolled out of its factories, like the Lamborghini 1R. Today, its tractors continue to be recognized for their prestige and design, and the company remains at the forefront of innovation in the agricultural industry.
The model that changed everything
But this time we want to talk about a vehicle in particular, one of the most popular of the company and with which it became famous: the Lamborghini Centenario Trattori No. 5/5 limited edition. It is a commemorative model of the centenary of the birth of Ferruccio Lamborghini. This special edition was released in 2016 and currently only consists of a mini collection of five tractors, making it a rare and exclusive item. Some individuals have auctioned it off. Here we are no longer talking about a work tool, but a collector’s item, one that represents the history and legacy of the brand.
He Lamborghini Centenario Trattori No. 5/5 It has an exclusive design created by the Italian designer Adler Capelli. The tractor features a color finish metal knot, which gives it a classy look. And it is equipped with a 2,193cc 3-cylinder engine that produces a power of 39CV. In addition, it can reach a top speed of more than 40 km/h.
Plus, it offers superior performance compared to standard models, with increased power output for tougher tasks like plowing in rocky terrain or hauling heavy loads over long distances. In addition, the sophisticated suspension system provides all the comfort whatever the terrain. It also has a luxurious cabin with leather-trimmed seats, climate control and a modern infotainment system.
